I created this blog just to express myself, to write about my experiences and some tips on various trips I have made and to publish texts and articles of remarkable and beloved friends, classmates and colleagues. My goal is to create a page enriched with interesting topics. I hope to accomplish, perhaps soon - maybe not so!

In any case thank you for visiting my personal blog and remember that is always available to a future visit! If you wish to be notified about new posts, you can follow my blog by email at the end of the right column.

TRAVELING IN EUROPE / PRAGUE: The fairytale city!

Prague, the fairytale city, with the bridges, the paved roads, the less modern but also remarkable buildings, the weird food and the special beers, the river Moldova with its beautiful cruises, the black theatre and puppetry, the imposing Castle, the dull weather, the superb museums... Prague, the capital of Czech Republic is the ideal destination for anyone looking for an experience back in time as well as the streamlined style drift you back in time!

THE ATTRACTIONS, each one so special, plucked from another era, many centuries ago, make this fairytale city unique. Starting with the Castle, the Royal Palace, the Royal Gardens and the huge cathedral of St. Vitus, which offers a unique panoramic view of the city to anyone who decides to climb the 96m. steps of the South Tower, visitors can waste an entire day to turn every corner of the castle of Prague. A little lower down, above the Moldova river, the famous hanging bridge of the city, Charles’ Bridge, which with its towers and statues is an integral part of Prague, as well as the entrance to the old city centre. Therein lays the Old Town Square, the Church Of Our Lady Before Tin, which through its appearance refers more to a castle rather than to a church, the church of St. Nicholas, the monument of Jan Hus, built in his honour in 1415 when he burned at the stake as a heretic because he voted against corruption in the church. Just opposite the famous Old Town Hall, with a balcony that offers breathtaking view of the centre, the Astronomical Clock and the Apostles giving a unique performance in front of passersby every hour. A little further south the Wenceslas Square, which starts at the National History Museum and ends in the narrow alleys of the market which in turn leads to the Old Town Square. Finally the hill Petrzin, surrounded by nature, ideal for moments of relaxation in the quiet, otherwise, capital of Czech.

THE MUSEUMS rich in exhibits, of all kinds, enhance and enrich their knowledge and culture. First in a row the National Museum or Museum of Natural History, the most beautiful museum I have visited so far, with thousands of exhibits, including dinosaur skeletons and archanthropuses, rocks, all kinds of animals, up to Mammoth, is undoubtedly an enormous cultural treasure. The National Gallery, with its countless works of art, the Wax Museum, featuring artists, politicians and historical figures, the Municipal Museum of Transport Means, with exhibits of great interest and a part dedicated to the teleportation, the National Technical Museum, dedicated to the development of technology today, the House of the black Virgin and the Jewish museum. On the other hand, for the more extreme types is the most eccentric part of Prague with three very special museums. The first is the Sex Machine Museum, in which you can find hundreds of sex toys, accessories and transsexual exhibits, and you can also watch the first porn film that was shot in 1908 and is a French production. The second is the Museum of Torture Instruments, where visitors can observe the most popular means of torture used in recent centuries. Last on the list is an exhibition of Spiders and Scorpions, with very interesting and creepy content.

THE NIGHTLIFE of Prague is in high levels. There are many different options for every taste. The bars and clubs in town are many and quite different from each other. Among them there's a club with Greek music on Wenceslas Square. Some of the best bars are the Coyotes Prague and Staromestska restaurace in the Old Town Square.

THE BLACK THEATRE AND THE PUPPET, important examples of the Czech art, offer, in a very low price, a unique show, that we definitely do not find in other countries. Two MUST SEE events that does not mean to miss anyone.

MOLDOVA, the famous river, ideal for romantic cruises for couples and friends. Enjoy a glass of wine or even dine to the sounds of Czech folk music and let the fairy tale to get you to another era.

CZECH’S KITCHEN very weird but equally nice. Do not forget to try the traditional dish Goulash; well cooked beef without the vegetables of the Hungarian version. Even more interesting dishes are the following: svíčková pečeně na smetaně, Smažený sýr, Knedlíky, syrečky και Halušky!

TIPS ΚΑΙ ΧΡΗΣΙΜΑ
  1. Transportation: The underground, with its three lines, covers almost the entire city and in combination with the public transportation (buses) easily connect each area of the centre and suburbs. However the beauty of this city is not located underground and since as a town it’s stepped easily is recommended to move by foot, especially when talking for short distances. Only in this way you can enjoy the original beauty of this fabulous city. Link: http://www.myczechrepublic.com/prague/tickets_fares.html
  2. Currency: The official currency is the Czech Crowns. The best thing to do is change your currency before you leave so you will enjoy a better rate.
  3. Discounts: The student passes are accepted almost everywhere.
  4. Flight: Many low cost companies, like Ryan air, Easy jet, Czeck airlines, Austrian airlines and Swiss, frequently flying directly to Prague. Links: www.ryanair.com, www.easyjet.com, http://www.czechairlines.gr/en/ , http://www.austrian.com/, http://www.swiss.com/
  5. Safety: Great attention to valuable and personal belongings. In Prague steal too much. Street vendors may also try to sell you drugs in the middle of the street. Stay away.
  6. Sightseeing: There are free daily tours of the city centre. The tour guides are all professionals and offer a comprehensive view of the city. If you are completely satisfied, you can provide (optional) the amount you think fits, if not, there's no problem. LINK: http://www.newpraguetours.com/daily-tours/new-prague-free-tour.html
